Dining table

Once again, I've been remiss in my posting, though I've actually done a few bits. The biggest thing I've done recently has been completing the refinishing of the dining table. It started life as a fairly standard solid pine Provencal-style dining table, coated in a varnish. As with most pieces of pine furniture, it was a bit, well, yellow. Which isn't the most attractive color in the world and certainly wouldn't have complemented the soon-to-be gray walls. Not that I'm complaining - it was free (thanks, Chris and Kate!) - it just needed a little time and love.

Now it looks gorgeous (if I do say so myself), but it's even more apparent that new chairs are the order of the day. My aim is to find six spindle back chairs, two with arms, and to refinish them in a complementary color. I've got two already, but until my set is complete, we're sticking with the ones that belong to our patio table because I have a weird need for the chairs to match each other, if not the table.

I lime waxed the top to take the edge off of the yellow/orange pine color, then painted the legs and side panels with Farrow and Ball's Estate Eggshell in Borrowed Light.

Not my exact table, but I forgot to take a 'before' photo. This is the type of style and original finish:

The result!
