It's Monday, the start of the work week, so it seems like a good day to start on my decorating project. Except I can't start decorating quite yet. Apparently, the people who owned the house before us thought that it was a good idea to paint straight over the light switch and plug covers. Clearly never having heard of masking tape, they also slopped matte paint onto light fittings, the wood fireplace surround, skirting boards and, when painting the windows, the actual panes of glass. As it's matte paint, white spirit won't clean it off, so I'm basically going to have to take some steel wool and scrub until my arms ache. By the end of the day I'm going to be like John McCain - unable to raise my arms above my waist. Thanks, previous owners. Your DIY skills are amazing. Really.
Also, I know I said I'd post photos this weekend, but I got a new camera and don't have the USB memory card reader yet, so once that arrives I'll put some up. I've actually got patches of color on my living room and dining room walls in an effort to choose which we like best, so we definitely have to paint now! I think I need a couple more tester pots to compare tones, though I think we're pretty close.
Once I get bored of scrubbing light switch covers (or begin to cry in frustration), I'm going to plant some morning glories, runner beans, corn flowers and delphiniums out in the garden. Then I'm going to roast a chicken and make an apple and blackberry pie. This pretty much sounds like my ideal day, so I'm sure something will happen to change my plans...
Why not get a lot of sample pots and do a patchwork on the walls? (hahaha) Sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself. Sorry the previous owners were so mentally (and DYI) challenged. But, the roast chicken and pie sound like you're on the right track. Try a razor blade to clean off the slop-over on the window panes. Keep up the good work, DYIwise and reporting. Love, Dad
